Missionary Update: John & Alta Hatcher in Brazil [May 2012]

October 6, 2012 – 08:23 pm

Missionaries John and Alta Hatcher have served the Lord in Brazil since 1955, planting over 70 churches that are still in existence.

Dear Brethren and Friends,

Greetings once more from Brazil in the precious name of Jesus. On April 30th I had my 87th birthday. No celebration, just thanksgiving to God for His many blessings in my life.

In the month of December our immediate family spent ten days together in the home of David and Pennie in Manaus. Needless to say, every moment we had together were joyous and precious. We praise and thank God every day for our wonderful children, our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren.

Annual Family Camp
The first week in January was the family camp directed by Pastor Valdir dos Santos of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cornelio Procopio. Our son, Paul, was the special speaker for the week. His messages on rewards and crowns were very profitable and of course Alta and I were thankful to have Paul and Wanda for the camp and with us a few days at home.

There were four churches and a synagogue in a small Ohio town: a Presbyterian church, a Baptist church, a Methodist church, a Catholic church and a Jewish synagogue. Each church and the synagogue had a problem with squirrels. The Presbyterian church called a meeting to decide what to do about their squirrels. After much prayer and cons...hen the Baptists took down the water slide. The Catholic Church came up with a very creative strategy. They baptized all the squirrels and consecrated them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas and Easter. Not much was heard from the Jewish synagogue, but it's rumored that they took one squirrel and circumcised him and they haven't seen a squirrel on their property since.

The damage was felt across Methodist life. As of the summer, more than half of the church's 62 U.S. regional districts, or annual conferences, reported they had budget deficits. Some sold property and buildings to continue their ministries. Two national Methodist boards cut more than 90 jobs. Fifty bishops took a voluntary pay cut. Annual conferences in hard-hit regions, such as Florida and Ohio...an Mission Board, at least three of its six seminaries and in its publishing and research arm.
Religious leaders say the next year or so will be key in determining which organizations survive the downturn intact. Even if the recession ends soon, religious fundraisers say the angst donors feel will not lift immediately, prolonging the difficulties for congregations, schools and ministries.

  • Avatar Cream P Was there a rapist living at high street baptist church?
    May 16, 2009 by Cream P | Posted in Other - News & Events

I herd somebody say that there was. They said Channel 6 news did a news report on it, but I can't find the story anywhere. They said the Pastor let him stay there and sleep, but during the day he had to leave, but at nigh … pastor believed in his "innocence", that he wasn't a rapist, just some hobo looking for a place to stay. It was the Church in Columbus, Ohio. So does anybody know where I can find the story at? If it's even true or not.

  • Avatar What are the consequences of violating a "No Solicitor/No Handbill" sign at an apartment complex? (Ohio, Col.)?
Jun 07, 2010 by | Posted in Renting & Real Estate

I live in Columbus and my apartment complex advertises plainly on the entrance to the area that there aren't to be solicitors or handbills. I come home to find my door stuffed with a very uncouth Baptist leaflet, stating …sized" above, they've entered my place of worship (my home) and filled it with their silly-sounding propagandist lies about something that SOUNDS important, like my Eternal Snarf. I take my Snarf very seriously. Thanks.

    • This happend to me before when I lived in a large apt community. Almost daily some junk was left on the door and those annoying jahovas witness people riding bicycles dressed in a suit on a 90 degree day would come a knocking at least 3 times a week. SO ANNOYING! I finally put up a no solicitors sign and a beware of dog sign on my door and that cut it down to less than half of what I was getting before the signs.
